Lemon's backstory
The name “lemon” is derived from the Arabic ‘laimun’ or the Persian ‘limun’. The lemon tree was first brought to Europe by the Crusaders in the Middle Ages. During the 1700s, an ounce a day was given to sailors in the Royal Navy after it was discovered that this nutrient-filled fruit could alleviate scurvy and other vitamin deficiencies.
